Spend more time in the kitchen in the new year. The more you cook, the more control you have over the preparation, and contents of your food. Since you control what you add, you can eat more healthfully. Try adding more flavor to your diet with more fruits and veggies.

Sit less.

Most of us spend the majority of the day sitting. Change that in the new year! Sitting can lead to serious health issues such as heart disease, obesity, and metabolic syndrome. Plus, it can wreak havoc on your back! Get a standing desk at work, go for a walk on your break, and take the stairs over the elevator. The more you stand the better off you’ll be in the long run.


Technology plays a huge role in our lives. Cell phones, computers, and TV are an integral part of our daily lives. But too much exposure to these devices can have a negative impact on your health. Too much digital stimulation increases your risk of depression and anxiety. Set aside time in your schedule to be technology free—especially before bedtime. Read a book, go for a walk, or engage with friends and family. You’ll be glad you did.

Sleep more.

The average adult needs eight hours of sleep, but many of us are too stressed to get enough Zzzs. Make a goal to do so in the new year. Lack of sleep increases your risk of heart disease, stress, anxiety, and other serious illness. Try going to bed at the same time every night and turning off the TV before bed.
