Delicious gingerbread cookie recipe!

Holidays are here and full of delicious treats! Add to all the Christmas goodies with this classic holiday dessert! Here’s what you’ll need to get started on yummy gingerbread cookies.

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3/4 teaspoon ground ginger

1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly milled black pepper

8 tablespoons (1 stick) unsalted butter, at room temperature

1/4 cup vegetable shortening, at room temperature

1/2 cup packed light brown sugar

2/3 cup unsulfured molasses

1 large egg

Sprinkles and candies to decorate

Start by using a medium bowl to combine all the dry ingredients (except for the sugar). Once the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cloves, salt and pepper have been mixed, set it aside.

In a separate large bowl, thoroughly mix the butter and vegetable shortening. Once mixed, add the sugar, molasses and egg.

Now combine the two mixtures together. Once mixed, chill the batter for a couple hours.

Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees. If you want to use a cookie cutter, roll out the dough on a flat surface. Use a bit of flour to make sure it doesn’t stick. But if you don’t wish to use a cookie cutter, just roll the dough into quarter sized balls. Place on a cookie sheet and bake for approximately 10 minutes.

Once cool, decorate with icing and sprinkles and enjoy!
