According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, 2017 was the most destructive wildfire season on record. Over 9,000 fires burned 1,381,405 acres, destroying more than 10,000 structures and over 40 people lost their lives, prompting the State Senate to review two new Wildfire Bills.
Many California residents are impacted by these devastating wildfires, and we want to make sure you aware of two important Senate bills currently under review in the CA Senate. The controversial bills have been introduced with the intention of providing wildfire survivors in CA peace of mind when another wildfire strikes. Committee members introduced the bills because so many wildfire victims found themselves underinsured and unable to rebuild their homes after their wildfire claims were processed.
Senate Bill 897: requires insurers to pay 80% of the limit of a policyholder’s personal property coverage with no requirement for a written inventory.
Senate Bill 894: allows policyholders to combine various coverages within their homeowner policy to pay any covered losses.
